Autonomous driving technologies hold the promise to transform the society in large. This is manifested by the venture capital piling on autonomous driving startups. Recently, many of these companies have experienced backlash though, as bringing those technologies on streets has turned out to be harder than anticipated. In this seminar, we are going to take a closer look at the challenges these companies are facing and what are the promising research directions to look into. With autonomous driving research labs now in Tartu and Tallinn, and companies like Starship Technologies, Milrem Robotics, Cleveron, and others, the field is getting traction in Estonia, moving towards the goal of having Estonia as the global test-bed for self-driving vehicles.
