European Network for Research in Organisational & Accounting Change (ENROAC) – 14th Conference

The 14th conference will be hosted by the University of Tartu, in Tartu (Estonia). Tartu is accessible by air from Helsinki or a comfortable bus or train ride from Tallinn Airport (Tallinn).

The conference will begin with light refreshments at lunch on 10 June, before the Practitioner’s Day during the afternoon, which also closes with a drink’s reception. June 11-12 will comprise academic (parallel) sessions and the professional development workshops.

Several key features help to define ENROAC conferences, including:

A Practitioners’ Day, day 1, comprising plenary talks by academics and guests from business and practice. The theme for this day is “Changing times for the accounting community”.
Academic (parallel) sessions throughout days 2 and 3, multiple themes within the general scope of the network.
The use of Discussants in (days 2 & 3) academic presentations, guaranteeing substantial feedback to authors, plus Q&A and general discussion.
The new feature of Professional Development Workshops, particularly aimed at emerging scholars.
An Informal Approach that promotes high-level intellectual thought and debate, but also leaves plenty of time for a social side and networking.

Expected and unexpected managerial and accounting consequences of introducing new business models, monetization and performance measurement systems, organizational modes of internal and external collaboration and coordination.
Digital transformation and the implementation of artificial intelligence in accounting and business processes.
Changes in MCS design and organizational processes in times of high uncertainty.

Critical and historical perspectives into combined management accounting and organizational change processes.

How to arrive to Tartu/Delta Centre

There are several ways to travel to Tartu from abroad. The most convenient way is by plane, as Tartu is accessible by air from Helsinki. Alternatively, you can fly to Tallinn Airport and take a comfortable bus or train to Tartu.

Arriving by airplane – Tartu Airport (TAY)

Finnair operates direct flights between Helsinki (Finland) and Tartu airports several days a week. The flight between Helsinki and Tartu lasts approximately 45 minutes. Tartu Airport is located 10 kilometers from the center of Tartu and accessible by bus or taxi (incl. Bolt ride hailing).

Arriving by airplane – Tallinn Airport (TLL)

Bus is the most convenient way of getting from Tallinn Airport to Tartu (see https://luxexpress.eu/en). The bus ride takes about 2.5 hours. Buses are comfortable and have free WiFi access. The airport’s main bus stop is located at the northern (i.e., city) end of the passenger terminal, to which an escalator or elevator and walkway will bring you from the Arrivals area.

Tallinn Airport is the largest airport in Estonia having direct flights to approximately 50 destinations internationally. About 20 airlines fly to Tallinn connecting it with some major airports in Europe (e.g., Frankfurt, Paris, London, Rome, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Riga). Tallinn Airport serves as the secondary hub for AirBaltic.

By bus from Tallinn Coach Station

The Tallinn Coach Station is about 2 km from Tallinn Airport and 3 km from the Old City Harbor, and you can get there by either tram, bus, or taxi (incl. Bolt ride hailing). Every day, more than 50 buses run between Tallinn and Tartu, with most of them also stopping at Tallinn Airport. The journey takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. In Tartu, the coach station is located in the city center.

By train from Tallinn (Baltic Station)

Trains for Tartu leave from Tallinn Baltic Station, and it takes about 2.5 hours to get to Tartu. The railway station is located in the city center of Tallinn, near the Old Town and the Old City Harbor. Trains are comfortable and have free WiFi access. If you are arriving at Tallinn Airport, you can also get the train to Tartu at Ülemiste stop just 1 km from the airport. In Tartu, the railway station is located 1.5 km from the city center.

Should you wish to prolong your stay in the Baltics, Riga airport is approximately 3.5 hours away by car and approximately 4.5 hours away by bus (see www.luxexpress.eu/en). Please note, however, that the bus services (www.luxexpress.eu/en and www.flixbus.com) only offer a limited number of connections between Tartu and Riga per day.

Practicalities

Accommodation
We recommend choosing accommodation in the city centre for convenience. It’s advisable to book in advance, as Tartu is a small student town with limited options, especially during peak periods. However, there are no major events scheduled during the ENROAC conference, so availability should be relatively good.

City Transport
Tartu is a highly walkable city, but you can also use buses, taxis, ride-sharing services, city bikes, and e-scooters. Tartu public transport is free with the conference badge during the event dates. Outside these dates, bus tickets can be easily purchased by card at the ticket validator on board.
